Starting a Small Business is Terrifying (But We Did It Anyway)

Let’s just start with the truth: starting a small business is so scary.

It’s exciting, yes. It’s fulfilling, yes. But also? Terrifying. There’s something surreal about seeing your name on a logo, your ideas on a website, your products on a table at the market. Suddenly, your creativity isn’t just yours anymore, it’s out there for everyone to see and (hopefully) love. And that’s a beautiful kind of vulnerable that no one really prepares you for.

The Honest Beginning

When we first started Stitch & Script, we had no roadmap. There was no five-step plan or secret formula. It was just a handful of late-night ideas and a lot of hope.

There were days when we’d get this rush of excitement, like “we’re really doing this!”, followed immediately by the voice that whispers of “what if it doesn’t work?”

What No One Tells You

No one tells you how personal it feels.

It’s not just about selling things. It’s about showing people a little piece of your heart. Staying up late to complete projects to perfection. Overthinking every label, color, and font choice. Second-guessing yourself right after hitting “post.” And getting your first order and nearly crying because someone believed in you.

And then there’s the practical stuff - setting up at markets in the freezing cold or sticky humidity or realizing you forgot some of your supplies back at home.

You laugh. You panic. You problem-solve. You keep going.

Why We Keep Going

Because somewhere in the middle of all that chaos, there are the moments that make it worth it.

Like the customer who stops by your booth just to say your work makes them smile.

Or the quiet moment when you finish a new design, look at it, and think, wow… I actually made this.

Those are the little heartbeats that keep Stitch & Script alive.

We started this because we love the feeling of creating something that carries care in every detail. The kind of handmade things that make people smile or maybe even feel inspired to create something of their own.

Stitch & Script Is About More Than Things

For us, it’s not just about sewing or stationery. It’s about storytelling. Every pouch, every piece of embroidery, every scrap of fabric all holds a little piece of a moment.

We want this space, this little corner of the internet, to feel like a creative conversation where we can talk about the beautiful, awkward, messy parts of trying something new.

The Emotional Whiplash (In a Good Way)

Some days, running a small business feels like flying. Everything clicks. You feel like you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.

And other days, it feels like you’re just… winging it. You don’t make a single sale, your brain won’t shut off, and you start to wonder if it’s all too much.

But that’s kind of what makes it magical. It’s never predictable. It keeps you humble and curious. You learn to laugh at the little disasters, to celebrate the tiny wins, and to trust that it’s okay not to have it all figured out.

Let’s Be Honest Together

If you’ve ever started something new - a business, a project, a creative dream - you probably know that feeling. That mix of thrill and terror.

So let’s talk about it. Let’s not skip the scary parts or the messy middle.
Tell us what you’ve started lately or what you want to start but haven’t yet. What’s holding you back? What’s lighting you up?

We’d love to hear from you — in the comments, in a DM, or maybe even an email!

This blog isn’t just for us to talk at you - it’s for us to talk with you.

Here’s to the Beginning

So here we are - building something out of fabric, paper, courage, and hope. Learning as we go. Messing up constantly. Celebrating the tiny wins.

We don’t have all the answers. We’re still figuring it out, one post, one product, one late-night brainstorm at a time.

But here’s what we do know:

This is worth it.
It’s scary and unpredictable and sometimes overwhelming, but it’s also full of so much heart.

Thank you for being here, truly. Whether you’ve supported us, shopped with us, or are just quietly cheering from afar, we see you.

And if you’re standing on the edge of your own “what if,” wondering if you should take the leap… maybe this is your sign to do it anyway.

Because the scary stuff? That’s where all the best stories start.

With love,

Jess and Amara
